Job Title: Controller

Position Function: Oversee all aspects of accounting/finance operations, including payables, receivables, payroll, audits, and tax preparation. Develop and manage accounting and financial information to enable the FREUND Inc. management team to make strategic and economically appropriate decisions regarding the financial and operational position of the company. Assist in the coordination of the efforts of all departments in accordance with stated goals and objectives. Develop and direct the company’s analytical, financial plans, and policies. Proposes sound finance recommendations to increase profitability.

Required Education: High School graduate or equivalent required and 4-year degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA certificate strongly preferred.

Required Experience: Proven work experience as a VP of Finance or similar role; 4 years in an accounting or finance related field required; 4 years of supervisory/leadership roles strongly preferred. Experience with auditing a manufacturing organization strongly preferred.

Relevant Skills: In-depth knowledge of financial benchmarking, accounting, audit and tax compliance and other regulatory matters; Adept in fiscal management principles and processes; Must have excellent operational understanding of the manufacturing process especially from a financial perspective; Must have efficient and organized work habits; Must be able to work without direct supervision and maintain complete confidentiality when required; Must be accurate, detail-oriented and maintain a professional appearance and pleasant disposition; Must have excellent communication and supervision skills. Must be an analytical thinker; Must be able to handle stress produces by accuracy requirements and broad impact of decisions, time, and work volume requirements, etc.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to sit or stand in same place for prolonged periods of time. Works indoors in normal office setting. Must be able to see, hear, and speak. Must be able to travel domestically and internationally as needed.

POSITION REPORTS TO: President

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Accounting Department (Finance Manager, Senior Accountant, Accountant, Accounts Payable Clerk)

POSITION FUNCTION: Oversee all aspects of accounting/finance operations, including payables, receivables, payroll, audits, and tax preparation.  Develop and manage accounting and financial information to enable the FREUND Inc. management team to make strategic and economically appropriate decisions regarding the financial and operational position of the company.  Assist in the coordination of the efforts of all departments in accordance with stated goals and objectives.  Develop and direct the company’s analytical, financial plans, and policies.  Proposes sound finance recommendations to increase profitability.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Tasks:

  1. Prepare timely and accurate analyses, summaries, and reports on financial data on the operating progress of the company.
  2. Manage company’s cash flow and create a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting structure by understanding the cash threshold needed to meet operational needs.
  3. Manage the company’s compliance with regulatory matters
  4. Coordinate overall budgeting and long-range planning process for the company
  5. Direct and prepare information for various financial analysis and audits.
  6. Monitor property and casualty insurance renewal process and interaction with various insurance agencies.
  7. Maintain banking relationship, including but not limited to
    1. Monitor daily bank balance.
    2. Conduct monthly bank reconciliation including both monthly bank report preparation and credit line control.
    3. Prepare monthly borrowing base certificates.
    4. Work with lending institutions to maintain needed debt instruments and renewals.
    5. Updating on a regular basis the file “Borrowing availability”
  8. Provide monthly financial statements for Board of Directors and Executive Council, Freund management, etc. as needed.
  9. Participate in meetings (monthly, quarterly, annually, as needed) to update Freund and/or its auditors (both internal and external) on the company’s financial status, forecasts, analysis, or other information as requested.
  10. Use knowledge of operations in all areas of the company to develop and update current fiscal year financial projections.
  11. Coordinate with Sales personnel and customers in review and approval of special terms on equipment sales; Assist in coordination of shipments based on customer terms and payments.
  12. Ensure accurate invoices are created for customer progress payments on large equipment orders based on manufacturing milestones reached.
  13. Review Accounts Receivable and make collection calls as necessary; Approve credit status for all major orders.
  14. Maintain contact with Board of Directors to provide updated information on company business as required with approval of President of company
  15. Stay abreast of latest management techniques.
  16. Ensure all weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually financials and supporting documentation are completed timely and accurately (bank reconciliation, profit & loss, balance sheets, cash flow statements, tax reporting, etc.)
  17. Sign checks over $2,500 for account payable and make wire transfers as needed.
  18. Manage JSOX matters with good communication with both Japan side and US side.
  19. Review audits with CEO and report any non-compliance issues to the CEO.
  20. Oversee and develop financial team members.
    1. Provide necessary training to ensure the success of the department by identifying training needs, developing, and delivering training programs to new and existing team members.
    2. Mentor team members and provide guidance to help them develop their skills and knowledge.
    3. Conduct annual performance reviews with team members
    4. Provide feedback and address issues as needed
  21. Protect and maintain confidentiality of sensitive company information, client data, proprietary knowledge, employee information, and any other confidential information/materials.

Discretionary Tasks:

  1. Identify continuous improvement opportunities and assist in implementing
  2. Perform other job duties as required.
